"Is there any sport more exciting and enjoyable that the swift ride through scudding spray on the “Queen” surf at Waikiki?"
This quote probably refers to the surf break offshore of what had been Queen Lili'uokalani’s pier. She had died six years earlier, in 1917, but the pier was still called after her.
It was demolished in the late '20s or early ‘30s. What’s called Queens Surf today is further down the shoreline towards the foot of Diamond Head.
