Riding the Breakers! on this Hollow Hawaiian Surfboard, by Tom Blake • 1937
Surfboard innovator Tom Blake built his first hollow surfboard in Hawaii in the late 1920s.
In the following decade, he publicized this design in various do-it-yourself American magazines, including this article in the July 1937 issue of “Popular Mechanics”. More plans are on the following two pages of this article.
pparently it was assumed that readers of this magazine were already experienced enough to be able to utilize only some simple diagrams to build a fairly complicated item.
