Outrigger Canoe Club Temporary Membership Card • 1917
Paul W. Rushford received this OCC card on August 24, 1917, which allowed him to use the club’s facilities at Waikiki when he went swimming or surfing there. Note that he wasn’t yet an actual member; that would be decided at the next Board of Directors’ meeting, but apparently he was considered acceptable enough to utilize a locker in the meantime.
Possibly the payment of his initiation fee of $20 helped – that might seem amazingly cheap, but one hundred years later the value would range from about $300 to $700 in today’s money. That is still a great deal less than what it costs to join any similar private club now!
